Briefing of U.S. delegation for Tajik officials on the security situation in Afghanistan
On February 28, 2013 in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and the Embassy of the United States of America the U.S. delegation held a briefing for Tajik officials on the security situation in the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in the conference room of the National Press Center in Dushanbe.
For the purpose of this briefing a delegation from the State Department and U.S. Department of Defense arrived from Washington to Dushanbe.
The United States delegation was headed by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense David Sedney and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Ms. Lynne Tracy. Also the briefing was attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic. The delegation of Tajikistan was headed by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard Rajabali Mahmadaliev.
During the briefing, the U.S. delegation informed the Tajik side on the current security situation in Afghanistan, as well as joint future plans for the transfer of security responsibilities to the Government of Afghanistan before and after 2014.
At the end of the meeting the U.S. delegation responded to questions from the Tajik side on various issues.
It is necessary to note that this briefing is the third in number and it is annually held since 2011 for Central Asian countries.
